DOROTHY J. ROWE
Dorothy J. Rowe, 70, of Ionia, former of Portland, died Aug. 20, 1994, in Ionia.

Mrs. Rowe was born in Kalkaska County June 4, 1924, the daughter of Burdette and
Bertine (Lewis) Brown. She was a member of the First Congregational Church UCC of Portland
and a member of the Portland VFW Post #4090 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Richard) Essner of Lake Odessa; one son,
Bruce W. (Diane) Rowe of Portland; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one stepson,
Jack (Sharon) Rowe of Denver, Colo.; stepdaughter-in-law, Margaret Walker of Portland;
and two sisters, Evelyn Belcher of Detroit and Doris Maxwell of Petosky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 1978; one son, Terry, in 1965
and stepson, William, in 1987.

Services were held Aug. 24 at the Gorsline-Runciman Neller Chapel in Portland, with
Rev. Stephen York of the First Congregation Church UCC officiating. Interment followed at

Portland Cemetery. Casket bearers were Eric Rowe, Kirk Essner, Nicholas Rowe, Joseph
Leonard, Richard Essner, and Stephen Spetoskey.

Contributions may be left at the chapel for the Hospice of Ionia and the American
Lung Association.
