The Ionia Standard, Friday, December 4, 1914

Marian, thirteen-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Rowley of Orleans 
township, died Friday afternoon as a result of heart failure, brought on it is 
supposed, by acute gastritis, at the home of her grandparents in Easton 
township.  The cause of death was shrouded in mystery for some time until 
after the arrival of Dr. Geo. P. Wincell and Coroner Clarke of this city, who 
were called about three o’clock in the afternoon to the country home.  
According to the story told by members of the family, the little girl in 
company with a visiting cousin left her home to go across lots to the home of 
her grandparents.  The children started to run, and when nearly to their 
destination, the Rowley child complained of being tired and sat down on a rock 
to rest, and toppled over at once, and when help arrived was dead.  

Funeral services are Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the home, and at 2 
from the Easton church.  Interment in Easton cemetery.

The funeral services for Marion Rowley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene 
Rowley, whose death occurred last Friday, were held Sunday from the Easton 
church.  A large number of the girl and boy friends of the deceased were 
present, besides many older friends, to hear the last rites solemnized by Rev. 
r. B. Chapman of the Disciple church here.  The schoolmates of the young girl 
from the Goodwin school acted as an escort from the church to the grave.  The 
pall bearers were also from the school, being Clark Hoxie, Walter Towne, 
Charles Higgins, Earl Musselman, Herbert Conner and Louis Curtis.
