A. ROWLEY, REMAINS WERE BROUGHT HERE Colonel A. Rowley died at the home of his son, James Rowley, near Caledonia last Saturday, having been in feeble health for several months. A few weeks ago he contracted a cold followed by the grip, which in his weakened condition hastened his death. He was conscious up to the moment of his death, and his last words were spoken to his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rowley, saying to her with outstretched arms. “O Helen, help me I am dying,” and expired immediately. The deceased was eighty-eight years, ten months and four days old and was born in Ontario County, New York, coming to Michigan in an early day. Mr. Rowley lived in Ionia before coming to Belding, and thirty five or forty years ago he settled in Cook’s Corners. He was a painter by trade and belonged to the old school, having learned the trade of mixing paints and colors before the day of prepared paints was thought of. Mr. Rowley was a good citizen, always having a cheerful word for everyone. His remains were brought here for burial by Undertaker Ben Friedly and the funeral was held at the residence of his son, L.A. Rowley, and the burial was made in the Otisco Cemetery by the side of his wife, who passed away about ten years ago. Rev. A.J. Blair officiated and Miss Ellen Blair and Mrs. Luther Berry sang. Many flowers covered the casket. Mr. Rowley leaves three sons- “Dell” and L.A. Rowley of this city, James of Grand Rapids and one daughter- Mrs. Charles Melle of Mt. Pleasant, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral. Mr. Mrs. Andrew Green and Mrs. Anna North, relatives from Ionia, were also here to attend the service. Additional Comments: Otisco Cem.
