All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nan Wheaton wheaton1624@yahoo.com December 10, 2020, 10:41 am Ionia Sentinel - Thursday, Nov. 16, 1911 DIED SUDDENLY THIS MORNING FRED RUBACH, SR., PROMINENT GERMAN RESIDENT VICTIM OF HEART DISEASE Worked at the Car Shops Wednesday as Casual and Was Well Last Night - death Came Very Soon After Condition Discovered by Family Fred Rubach, sr., one of the oldest of Ionia's German residents, died this morning at four o'clock at his home on North Jackson street. Mr. Rubach was 60 years of age and has been a resident of Ionia for more than 30 years. He came from Germany where he was born and has always since his arrival have lived here and has been one of the best known and respected citizens. Heart disease which (a good portion of paragraph either missing or illegible) Mr. Rubach was lifted up in bed but with a few gasps passed away without a word. He leaves a widow and five children, Emil, Fred Jr., Mrs. Mary Stoll, Minnie and Otto. Mr. Rubach has been back at his work in the car shops for several weeks. He was forced to leave his work for a time on account of his health but recovered so that he was able to go back. November 20, 1911 The funeral for Fred Rubach, sr., was held Sunday afternoon from the Lutheran church and was very largely attended. The capacity of the church was taxed to the utmost by the large number of friends and relatives who were present to pay their last tribute to the memory of the dead. Floral offerings in abundance were the gifts of friends. Those who carried the remains to the grave were four old time friends of Mr. Rubach, August Heiden, John Speckin, Wm. Warnke and August Storch. Among those from out of the city who were present were Mrs. Yanke, of Grand Rapids, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rubach, of Chicago, besides many from near Ionia.
