Rubach Dies In Hospital Otto L. Rubach, 68, one of Ionia's elder businessmen, died Thursday morning at 5:30 in Blodgett hospital, Grand Rapids. He had been a patient there five days following his transfer from the Ionia County Memorial hospital, where he had been for one day. He not only spent his entire lifetime in Ionia, but was connected with the same business firm all of his working life. He had resided at 660 North Jackson street. Starting out as an employee of the W.C. Page Coal Co. at the age of 25 he later became a partner in the firm and eventually was its sole owner. He was born in Ionia October 15, 1890 the son of Frederick and Mary Rubach. June 22, 1915 he was married in Ionia to Anna Hass and July 31 of the same year went to work for W.C. Page Coal Co. Following the death of R.L. Page he and the late Edward Spencer formed a partnership November 1, 1926 to continue the firm under its former name. He became sole owner of the W.C. Page Co. following the death of Mr. Spencer in 1934. He continued to operate the business alone until Otto. B. Ruehs was taken into partnership in 1946 following his return from World War II. Mr. Rubach maintained as active interest in the business until May 1, 1958 when he disposed of his share to Mr. Ruehs and retired. He had been an active member of the St. John Lutheran church and an elder for 16 years. He was also a member of the Luther Society. Besides his wife, Anna, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Francis Larson of Berlin township; two grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Minnie Rubach and Mrs. Mary Stoll of Ionia; three nephews and one niece. Funeral service will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the St. John Lutheran church with the Rev. Theodore Timler officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery. The body will be at Boynton funeral home until time of the service. Members of the family will be at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9:30 to receive friends and relatives. A memorial fund will be established for the, "Moments With God" broadcast.
