There she resided through the years of her childhood and young womanhood, the latter period being devoted to school teaching. In 1855 she was married to John William Rudgers of Brecksville, Ohio. They continued to reside in Ohio for a short time, then went to Niagara Falls, N.Y., making their home there until 1857, when they moved to Michigan and took up their abode in Lyons, Ionia county, remaining here a great many years. To this union six children were born, three of whom died in infancy. The children remaining to mourn are Cortland A. Rudgers of Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Minnie Filer of Muskegon, Mich., and Carrie A. Rudgers of Hudson, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Rudgers united with the Baptist church in the city of Niagara Falls and when coming to Lyons they brought their church letters and united with the Baptist church here. They were always active workers in this capacity and much enjoyed the same. Mrs. Rudgers was a very active woman in every way up to her last illness. She retained her mental faculties to the very last. She made all arrangements for her funeral services as far back as the year 1914 and every thing that she wanted done was carried out to the very letter. She departed this life Friday, May 4, 1917, at the home of her daughter, Carrie, in Hudson, Mich., where she had made her home since 1908. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6, at the vesper hour, 5:00 o’clock p.m., at the home. The remains were brought to Lyons, Monday, May 7, 1917, for interment in the family lot of the cemetery where the husband, who died in 1888, lies sleeping. Mrs. Rudgers had resided for many years in Cleveland, Ohio; also Youngstown, Ohio, after leaving Lyons.
