The Ionia Daily Standard, Thursday, January 5, 1899


Fred Rummler, aged 19, one of the young men from Belding who enlisted in Co. 
I., died at his home on Tuesday night.  The young man was slight of physique, 
and was not able to shake off the malaria.  He had chills every other day since 
his return from Cuba, and an attack of la grippe setting in, the complications 
carried him away.  He was a jolly little man, and was well thought of by the 
members of the company generally.
