Hervey E. Runyan, 90, of Palo, died Monday afternoon in the Belding Christian 
Nursing Home.  Born in Shiawassee County February 15, 1889, he was the son of 
William and Jennie Allen Runyan. 

He attended rural schools in Shiawassee County, and was married to Nellie 
Castle March 4, 1922.  They made their home in Lansing most of their married 
life, and she preceded him in death on August 22, 1958.  He was then married 
to Retta Litchfield December 26, 1959.  They made their home in Lake Odessa 
until moving to Palo in October of 1978.

He was a letter carrier for the Lansing Post Office Department for 29 years 
before retiring, and was a member of the Lansing Camera Club and the Lansing 
Retired Post Office Employees.

He is survived by his wife, Retta, of Palo, two step-sons, Leo Litchfield of 
Palo and Durwood Litchfield of Baldwin; two step-daughters, Mrs. Erma Weeks of 
Saranac and Mrs. Clare (Maxine) Stahl of Clarksville; one brother, Leroy, and 
one sister, Mrs. Mildred Hubble, both of Owosso; 45 grandchildren, 55 great-
grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.  Three brothers, one sister 
and three step-children preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home 
with the Rev. Keneth Harger of the Shiloh Community Church officiating.  
Committal services will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Owosso at 3 p.m.  
The family will be at the funeral home to receive friends and relatives 
tonight and tomorrow from 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral 
Home for Hervey Edmund Runyan, 90, of 8273 Front St., Palo, who died Monday.  
Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Owosso.  Pallbearers were grandsons, 
Keith, Duane and Jerald Litchfield, Daryl Weeks, Terry Fisher and Kendall 
Stahl.
