All of Mr. Rush’s life he has been a hard working but successful farmer living just north west of Lake Odessa. For four years he faithfully executed the duties of the office of County Drain Commissioner of Ionia county. He also served as Highway Commissioner with the same loyalty. He was a man who when he undertook a job would do it with his might. He did not believe in neglecting a duty. His office work when Drain Commissioner was done at the Wave office, where he became a firm friend with the late A.J. Dann. He leaves his wife and two sons, Lewis and Allen. James Francis Rush, son of Elisha and Elizabeth Rush, was born in Odessa township, January 4, 1859 and died January 21, 1922, aged 64 years, and 17 days. March 11, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Russell. To this union three children were born, Lewis now living in Campbell township, Allen living at home and a baby dying in infancy. In his early life he assisted his father with farm work until he purchased a farm of his own. He served a number of years as County drain commissioner and later as highway commissioner until he failed in health, after which he was a patient sufferer until his death. The funeral was held at the Liberal U.B. church Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. Zuse the pastor preached, Rev. Mourer made the prayer and the church choir sang. Burial was at Lakeside. Those from out of town in attendance were a sister of Mr. Rush, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Lepard and daughter, Mrs. Rose Beach, three cousins, Mr. and Mrs. George McDonald and Mrs. Will Garvey all of Charlotte, two cousins, Weller and Claud Root of Cass City, two cousins, Joshua Root and Mrs. Chas. Weddows of Novi; relatives of Mrs. Rush were a brother, Wm. Russell of Saginaw, a sister, Mrs. Fred Lawrence and sons Charles and Edward and their wives of Hastings, a brother, Lester Russell of Lansing, a sister, Mr. and Mrs. Alt Rathbun of Grand Ledge and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Wuiss of Grand Rapids.
