The First United Brethren church could hardly accommodate the many friends who wished to pay a tribute to this popular young man. The Rev. Clifford Stormes, a former pastor, and the Rev. J. E. Barr spoke of the valuable church and community work of this young man. The pall bearers were Richard Short, Berwin Stadel, Albert Shelenbarger, Ronald Lehman, Glenn Farthing and Gordon Lozo. Violin music was furnished by Gordon Williams accompanied by Mrs. Carl Heise. Burial was in Lakeside cemetery. Obituary Leslie Leo Rush, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rush, was born in Woodland township, June 24, 1916, and died at Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids, September 3, 1941 at the age of 25 years, two months and 10 days. He spent his first twenty-one years at home on his father’s farm in the Tamarac vicinity. In 1937 he was united in marriage to Georgia Ardis Barker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Barker. To this union was born one daughter, Bonnie Lee. From the time of his marriage until he passed away he made his home in Woodland where he was employed by Smith Bros., Velte & Co. He will be greatly missed by everyone as he was always willing to take part in anything concerning the betterment of his friends and his community. He was a very active member of the First United Brethren church, serving as superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a member of the village council, being the youngest ever to serve in that organization; a member of the K of P. lodge, and one of the firemen in the Woodland fire department. Besides his widow, Ardis, he leaves to mourn a daughter Bonnie Lee, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rush, three brothers Kenneth, Dallas and Roger, all at home; three grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Foght and Mrs. Libbie Rush, and a host of relatives and friends.
