Dec. 20, 19000 Emma Russel, wife of Eugene Russel died at her home in this village Dec. 9th, 1900. Her body was taken to Reiding Wednesday for interment in the Otisco cemetery. Emma Godfrey was born in Vergennes, Kent Co., Mich., Aug. 8th, 1849. She removed with her husband to Luther about 13 years ago since which time this has been their home excepting a short residence in Grand Rapids about four years ago. Last winter her health began to fail and although everything that loving thoughtfulness and tender care could give were hers, yet the dread messenger “Death” came steadily nearer. Mrs. Russel was closely identified with Luther Hive, L.O.T.M. being one of the early members of that order. She was always ready to help even to the point of sacrifice to in any way benefit the order or any of the sisterhood and will be greatly missed by them. As a friend and neighbor she will long be remembered, with loving thoughts for her many acts of kindness. The bereaved husband has the deepest sympathy of the community in his loss and while his home is left desolate through the loss of his loved one, we feel that we can mourn with him for we too have lost a friend. – Luther Observer.
