April 26, 1918 SERVED UNCLE SAM FOURTEEN YEARS Resident of this Vicinity All Hs Life, Always Bearing the Good Will of The Community. Fred Russel one of the staunch, un pretentious men of the village died Sunday, April 14, at his home after months of wearing suffering. Mr. Russel was one of the fixtures of the village having served for 14 years as mail carrier. Winter and summer through rain and shine he kept at his post, faithful always. He was a member of the F. and A. M., also of the I.O.O.F. and will be greatly missed among his many friends, but greatest of all in the home so dear to him. This is another one of the many inhabitant of this community this season has removed from our midst. OBITUARY After a lingering sickness of several months Fred Russel one of our oldest mail carriers of the community was called from time to eternity, April 14, 1918. He was born in Odessa Township, May 3, 1858, son of Sumner and Lucinda Russell. The family was one of the early pioneer families of the community. Fred was educated in the schools of the community. He was first married to Elva Lowrey. to this union were given two children, a boy that passed away when 22 months old and Mrs Edna Nye who departed this life in 1911. He was married to Cora VanSiclen, June 29, 1904. One child, Paul Fred, blessed this home. For fourteen years Fred braved the cold of winter and heat of summer to bless the homes by bringing the letters and papers to the country home. He was well liked on his route, always being kind to his patrons. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Bonebrake at the United Brethren church, using as a text, "The Angel of the Lord encampeth around about them that fear him and delivereth them." Miss Verda Gattner and Mrs McIntosh sang three selections. He leaves beside the wife and son one grandchild, a foster daughter and host of friends to mourn their loss.
