During recent years Mr. Russell had been making his home with his son, Clarence and family in Mason county, but had spent a few months each winter with his son and family in Belding and had made many friends here who will regret to hear of his passing. Funeral services in charge of the Stephens funeral home of Scottville were held Saturday, July 15, at 2:30 p.m. at the Batchelor Christian church in Mason county, and burial was in Batchelor cemetery beside the remains of his wife who had preceded him in death eight years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Russell had resided on a farm in the Batchelor community for many years and Mr. Russell took an active part in the planning and building of the little country church where his funeral services were held. He with the Rev. Fred Stewart who officiated at his funeral were both members of the first board of trustees of said church. Rev. Stewart paid a fine tribute to his old friend and neighbor and was very happy to know that he passed from this life with his trust in his Savior. Besides the two sons, Mr. Russell is survived by nine grandchildren, his two eldest grandsons being in the armed services of their country: Calvin with the medical air Corps in France and William, son of Clarence Russell, with the navy in the South Pacific. Mrs. George Minion of this city is a granddaughter of the deceased. He leaves one sister and one brother, Mrs. Ida Bort of St. Joseph, Mich., and Calvin Russell of Toledo, Ohio; besides many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. A kind and loving father and a true and dependable friend.
