Russell was born at Oswego, N.Y. in 1853 and died at Belding April 2, 1902, aged 49 years. He moved with his parents to the Township of Keene, Mich. when he was six years old. At the age of sixteen he enlisted in the war of the Rebellion, returning to Keene at the close of war. He was twice married. In his first marriage he was united with Miss Mary Rayment. The fruit of this marriage was four children, two of them dying in infancy and two sons living, one residing in this city and one in Chicago. In his second marriage he was united with Miss Estella Shermon twenty years ago last February. No children were born from this union. He moved to Barryton, Mecosta Co. in 1890 and has resided there ever since. He came to Belding last fall to attend the funeral of his father and never was able to return to his home. He leaves a mother who is quite aged, a wife and two sons, four brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss. In these months of sickness he has been very patient and his closing hours were without a struggle. He was a member of the Maccabees.
