Lawrence Russell, former Ionia resident, who died Feb. 8, in Sisters, Ore. The Rev. John F. Sorensen and a former pastor, the Rev. Carl Hausermann, will officiate. He was born June 30, 1913, in Ionia County, the son of George and Bessie Moon Russell. He and his wife, Dorothy, were married April 19, 1941. He was a retired furniture craftsman for Michigan State Industries at Michigan Reformatory; he also worked for a boat factory and furniture factory in Ionia. He retired in 1978. He was a member of the Ionia First United Methodist Church and was active in Boy Scouts and March of Dimes. Surviving him are his wife; three sons, George of Athens, Ga., John of Ann Arbor and Joseph of Sisters, Ore.; two daughters, Tonne Ganger of Sisters, Ore., and Elizabeth of Medford, Ore.; four grandchildren; one brother, Ernest of Greenville; and one sister, Lucille Hodell of Grand Rapids. One brother and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Feb. 12 in Sisters, Ore., and his ashes were buried at Tuttle Cemetery in Ionia. A memorial has been established for the Ionia First United Methodist Church and the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer Society. A luncheon will be served to family and friends by the women of the church following the memorial service.
