She was born on July 19, 1915 in Portland, the daughter of Miles and Neva (Covert) Tran. Mrs. Russman graduated from Portland High School in 1933. Thelma was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. She married Herman J. Russman on November 6, 1942. Thelma enjoyed keeping a journal, tending her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman; brother, Alan Tran; sister, Ardith Rittersdorf. Surviving are her son, Charlie (Cindy) Russman of Portland; grandchildren, Christin, Aaron, Katie, Laurie and Audrey; brother, Raymond (Dorothy) Tran of Smyrna; brothers-in-law, Joseph Rittersdorf of Greenville, and William (Marilyn) Koster of Portland; and sister-in-law, Lorena Tran of Belding. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles D. Hall, Pastor, at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2003 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Portland, with Rite of Committal to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia. The family will receive friends at Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Rosaries will be prayed Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Flohe Foundation, in memory of Thelma Irene Russman.
