He was assistant mechanic on the M-44 road construction job. He was working under the big scoop on the cement mixer, when in some manner it became loosened and dropped, pinning him beneath it. He was terribly crushed, but was rushed to the Belding hospital where it was hoped something might be done to save his life, but he died at 11 o’clock. His former home was at Somerset, near Jackson. The funeral services were held from the home of a sister at that place Sunday afternoon. Mr. Rutan leaves a wife, three brothers and a sister. At the time of the accident, Mr. and Mrs. Rutan were living in the Louis Hall tenant house. Although residing in this community less than a year, they had a number of friends who were shocked to hear of his untimely death. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kent, and Charles Case of Orleans attended the funeral.
