Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Kathryn D. Rutz, 85, of Ionia passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in Ionia.  She 
was born Feb. 4, 1917, in Saranac, the daughter of Ralph E. and Lena (Dawson) 
Kernen.

She married Allen Rutz Sept. 21, 1936 who preceded her in death in 1972.  She 
was dearly loved by her children: Connie (Eddie) Kortan of Ionia, Ellen 
(Ronnie) Auman of Sterling Heights, and Ed (Joyce) Rutz of Saranac.  
Grandchildren: Randi (Marty) Weaver, Kim (Rod) Kurr, Deb (Walt) Maciejewski, 
Barb (David) Hardy, Tracy (Lorren) Denman, Darcie (Joel) Smith, Kelly Curtis, 
Stacy Henstock, and Wendy (Phil) Pikarski; great-grandchildren: Chad Lyons, 
Curt Lyons, Laura Weaver, Christina (Jason) Siburt, Casie Kurr, Richie 
Maciejewski, Melissa Maciejewski, Alisha Maciejewski, Jason (Kate) Hardy, Tara 
Hardy, Andrea Hardy, Derek Denman, Calvin Denman, Lucas Smith, Colby Smith, 
Chris Curtis, Jeremy Curtis, Ryan Henstock, Ashley Pikarski, and Megan 
Pikarski; great-great grandchild Austin Lyons; and sister Joan (Joe) McCord of 
Ionia.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Beryl Talcott, Caroline Kernen, and 
Hope Jane Kernen; and four brothers, Herbert Talcott, Kenneth Kernen, Fredrick 
Kernen, and Robert Kernen.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. 
Kenneth Harger officiating.  Interment is at Saranac Cemetery.  The family will 
receive friends and family 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at 
the funeral home.  Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution to Heartland 
Health Care Center or Shiloh Community Church.  Envelopes are available at the 
funeral home.
