Rutz, 82, of Ionia, formerly of Belding, passed away on October 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. He was born the son of Henry and Katherine Rutz on February 4, 1924 in Ionia. He attended Loomis School in Ionia. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Verda Shindorf on February 22, 1947. He worked for many years at Houghton Meat Packing Co. in Ionia and was an avid hunter. He was a member of V.F.W. post #5065 in Sheridan. He also enjoyed Nascar, Rodeo, and taking rides around Ionia County with his wife in his truck. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 4 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law, and son-in-law David Oliver. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Verda, 2 sons, Jack (Charlett) Rutz of Saranac, Leo (Linda) Rutz of Saranac, 2 daughters, Reta (Dennis) Imhoff of Ionia, Jane Oliver of Ionia, 13 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Melvin Fox at Easton Township Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2006. In lieu of flowers, cards can be sent to Verda Rutz at 2160 Dick Rd., Ionia, Michigan. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.
