Ryan, storekeeper at the Pere Marquette shops and a life-long resident of this city, died at 1:00 o’clock Monday a.m. at his home, 239 Adams street, death coming very suddenly as the result of a heart attack, to which he was subject. He had had two similar attacks during the past week, but was feeling much better on Sunday, and spent the evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Connell on Lafayette street. At about 11:00 o’clock he returned to his home, and it was not until he left the Connell home that he felt the first symptom of another attack. When he reached his home he called to Mrs. Kunkle, who immediately tried to find restoratives, and called the doctor. Before any one could reach the home he was dead. Mr. Ryan was born 62 years ago, in the second house west that where he died. His mother died about 17 years ago, and his father before that, and so far as he knew at the time of his death he had no living relatives of any degree. He never married. He was early in life employed by the Pere Marquette as a brakeman, and the accident which crippled him occurred at Greenville a quarter century ago. The road gave him the position as storekeeper afterward. There are few people in Ionia who have lived here any length of time who did not know “Dan” Ryan, and he was one person without a known enemy. Mr. and Mrs. Kunkle have made their home with him for about two years. During the past summer he spent about two months at the sanitarium at Battle Creek; it was only shortly before that it was discovered that there was an organic heart trouble, which had not been recognized earlier. Funeral on Tuesday morning at 9:00 o’clock, at the Church of SS. Peter & Paul, with burial at Highland Park. The body will be kept in the vault there until spring.
