Howard “Mike” Ryan, age 85, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 at his home near 
Carson City with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 23, 1923 to Thomas “Teed” and Viva (Schillinger) Ryan in 
Bloomer Township. He married Doris Peterson on Aug. 23, 1949 in Hubbardston. 
Mike served his country during WWII with the Mounted Calvary Division in Japan. 
Upon returning home, he joined his father and brothers on the family dairy 
farm, working there until his retirement. Mike’s family was very important to 
him, and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He was an avid 
deer hunter and Detroit Tiers fan. He also loved woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris; 1 son, David (Linda) Ryan, of 
Carson City; 3 daughters, Diane (Greg) McCracken of Carson City, Jeanne (Larry) 
Reynolds of Lexington, Neb. And Lori (Steve) Gierhan, also of Lexington; one 
son-in-law, Richard Kreft of Lakeview; 9 grandchildren, Michael (Rachel) Ryan, 
Teed Ryan, Casey (Kari) McCracken, Christopher (Erika) McCracken, Kelly 
McCracken, Marci (Adam) Shaw, Shannon (Daniel) Keller, Kurtis Gierhan and Leesa 
Gierhan; 2 great-grandchildren Jacob Ryan and Karlee McCracken; 2 brothers; Bob 
(Ethel) and George Ryan and 2 sisters; Gladys Ryan and Mary Catherine Hogan.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Danny; 1 daughter, Kathy Kreft; 
parents, T.D. and Viva Ryan; brother, Joe and Bill Ryan; sister, Peg Mitchell 
and Grace Lambie and sister-in-law, Glennis Ryan.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Lux 
and Schnepp Funeral Home in Carson City. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 
a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be 
made to Carson City Area Hospice.
