Mr. Ryan had been in his usual health, apparently, having telephoned the sheriff’s office here on a matter of business but a few moments before being stricken. Physicians summoned pronounced it a case of apoplexy, Mr. Ryan dying almost immediately after falling to the floor, just opposite the night clerk’s desk. A daughter, Miss Grace Ryan of Ypsilanti, and two sons, Clyde of Albion, and Ray of Cleveland, survive. William Ryan was an officer, to whom duty to the law was his watchword. Through change after change in the office of sheriff, here at the county seat, he continued to serve – and serve well. His unfailing good judgment and untiring efforts made him a valuable official and his home community will miss his passing. Funeral services for the aged officer will take place Friday morning from the home of W.H. Young in Portland. Interment will be at St. Johns. Several members of the sheriff’s office force are planned to attend the obsequies.
