Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at United Methodist Church for H.
Russell Sage, 70, of 9246 W. Belding Road.  Mr. Sage passed away Sunday, March
18, at Belding Community Hospital following an eight month illness.  Rev. Eugene
Lewis officiated at the services.  Masonic rites were under the auspices of the
Belding Lodge 355 F. & A.M.  Interment was at Otisco Cemetery.  Members of the
Masonic Lodge served as pallbearers.  Arrangements were by Charles M. Courser
Funeral Home.

A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Sage was born August 31, 1902 at Detroit,
the son of Harry C. and Elizabeth (Brace) Sage.

A former Ionia county deputy sheriff and operator of Sage’s Vegetable farm for
37 years, Mr. Sage was an honorary retired member of UAW Local 600 and a charter
member of Cook’s Corners Lions Club.  He was a member of Belding United
Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge number 355 F. & A.M., the UAW Advisory Board of
the state of Michigan, the Council of the Retiring of the state of Michigan, the
National Advisory Council UAW, and chairman of the Advisory Board of the state
of Michigan.  He was also a retired employee of Hupp Corp. and trustee of UAW
local 137 of Hupp Corp.

Mr. Sage was married to Dorothy Buell on April 30, 1927 at Greenville.  She
survives.  Also surviving are a daughter Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Church of
Greenville, two sons Russell Jr. at home and John of Belding and two
grandchildren.  Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the
Michigan Diabetic Association.
