Ionia Shopper's Guide-Saturday March 29, 2025

       SALKA

Andris Salka affectionately known as "The Salk" age 83 of Saranac passed away 
peacefully on March 23, 2025 with his loving family at his side.

He was born to Rudolfs and Austra Salka on November 23, 1941 in Panemune, 
Latvia. After fleeing the Russian invasion when he was 2, his family lived in 
Lubeck, Germany then immigrated to the United States when sponsored by the 
Meacham family in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. They moved to Grand Haven in the 
1950's.

After graduating from Grand Haven High School he attended Western Michigan 
University whre he met his wife Patti while working on his master's degree.

Andris worked at the Handlon Michigan Training Unit in Ionia as a teacher and 
retired from the Deerfield facility. He was on the MTU Rifle & Pistol shooting 
team.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and being outdoors whether canoeing, camping, or 
sitting around the campfire. He loved to travel, especially to Maine and Alaska.

He leaves behind his loving wife Patricia (Patti), son Timothy(Tim)(Patty), 
Daughters Andrea(Troy) Henderson, and Kristin (Bryan)Morrissey, grandchildren 
Rowan, Annabella, Eangeline, Murron Henderson; Ethan Salka; Sydney and Teagan 
Morrissey.

He lived a full and joy filled life and will be greatly missed.

All services will be at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac with visitation 
Sunday,March 30 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A funeral service will be on Monday,March 
31st at 11:00 am, the family will will visit with friends an hour before the 
service.He will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
