Sanborn, 81, of 210 Indian Rocks road south, Largo, Fla., were January 3, at Clearwater, Fla. He died December 31. He was a graduate of Central Michigan university, Eastern Michigan university (BA) and University of Michigan (MA). He was superintendent of schools at Edenville, Watrousville, Sheridan, Kingston and East Detroit, and an instructor at the University of Maryland one year. He came to the Michigan Department of corrections in 1936 as educational director at the Michigan Reformatory at Ionia, where he later was deputy warden. He was also deputy warden and acting warden at State Prison of Southern Michigan, Jackson, before becoming a member of the Michigan parole board in 1948, from which he retired in 1960. It was said when he retired that “Boys in Prison to Lose Friend as Sanborn Quits Parole Board.” After retirement he and his family spent winters in Mexico and Texas before settling in Florida in 1966 near Clearwater, and summers at their lakeside home near Cheboygan. He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Charlotte; son, Robert; brother, Glen, two grandsons and one great grandson.
