Bill served in the Navy Seabees during World War II helping to build runways and other installations to pave the way for troops in the Pacific Islands. A resident of Palo Alto, Calif. for 51 years he was well known for his untiring efforts in coaching and assisting in the Little League, Babe Ruth, and American Legion baseball programs. He and his wife, Pat, ran a concession stand at the Palo Alto Little League Ballpark since the 1970’s He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Norma (Atwell) Sandborn. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Pat; three sons; two daughters; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nine siblings: Loren “Bud” (Ellie) Sandborn of Mio, Jackie Whitfield of North Carolina, Beverly Fedewa, Janean (John) West, Norma Hill, Mary Sandborn and Chuck (Jeri) Sandborn of Portland, Steve (Gerry) Sandborn of California, and Jim (Brenda) Sandborn of Texas.
