Lawrence Sandborn Dropped Dead Monday Afternoon. He Was Unloading Wheat at the Portland Milling Co’s Mill. The Coroner’s Jury Finds That Death Was the Result of Heart Failure. Late last Monday afternoon this community was shocked to hear and learn that Lawrence Sandborn, an old, well known and highly respected farmer of Danby township, had dropped dead while transacting business at the flouring mill of the Portland Milling Co. He had been drawing wheat during the afternoon and had just unloaded the second load, and stepped to the outside office window to get his check cashed; the money was given him and he put it in his pocketbook which he put in his pocket, turned and took a couple of steps forward when he threw up one hand and fell upon his face on the floor. Allie Newman was standing near him and when he reached his side attempted to assist him to his feet; but finding he could not do it he called for help, when it was found that the unfortunate man was dead. Justice Morse was immediately notified and he impaneled a jury consisting of E. Stevenson, Thos. Frost, D. A. Smith, D. Kennedy and O. F. Barton. The jury viewed the remains and the inquest was adjourned until Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock. After listening to the testimony of the witnesses and physicians the jury found that deceased came to his death from the results of heart failure. The only bruises upon the body of Mr. Sandborn were upon his face, his nose being badly smashed and there was one over his left eye. Lawrence Sandborn was born in Allen, N. Y., May 22d, 1829, and had consequently just passed his 66th birthday when he was so suddenly stricken down. He was first married in California, where he spent nearly twenty years in mining and prospecting. He was married the second time to Eliza Carr, who with one daughter, Mrs. Romeo Chamberlain of Hart, Mich., by his first wife, and four children by his second wife, survive him. Lawrence Sandborn was a hard working, upright, honorable man and one who was respected by all his neighbors and friends. The funeral services will be conducted from his late home on Wednesday afternoon of this week at 2:30.
