The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, June 3, 2014


Vella Sanders, aged 103, of White Lake formerly of Saranac, passed away June 1, 
2014.  She was born April 12, 1911 the daughter of James and Mamie (Francisco) 
Butler.  She married Major Sanders in 1930, he preceded her in death.  

Vella was a member of the Saranac Community Church and The Boston Historical 
Society. She was an avid Bowler playing well into her 90’s. 

She is survived by her nephew Nelson (Carol) Rich Jr. of White Lake; nieces 
Janis (Gary) Yager of Sandusky, Michigan and Joan Rich of Wixom; eight great 
nephews; and 11 great great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband Major, son Richard and her parents. 

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lake Funeral Home with 
Pastor Becky Poor and Pastor Stanley Hagemeyer officiating.  Interment Balcom 
Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home on Friday 4-8 p.m.
