March 30, 2016 NEIL D. SANFORD Neil D. Sanford, 83 of Woodard lake went to be with Jesus Saturday morning March 26, 2016 at the Laurels of Carson City. Neil was born on Dec. 8, 1932 in Maple Rapids, the son of Wilbur "O.D." and Ila (Davey) Sanford. Neil was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW (Saranac and Sheridan), Fraternal Order of Eagles (Ruskin, Florida) and the Moose Lodge (Michigan and Florida). He served 30 years as a corrections officer with the State of Michigan, retiring in 1984. Neil enjoyed hunting, fishing, painting, golf, wintering in Florida and living at Woodard lake. He was married on July 10, 1982 to Darlene "Casey" Kay Jones-Stauff. Neil is loved and survived by his wife Casey and his children, Karen Hettleer (Rick Vorase) of Elsie, Carla Winter (Joe Babin ) of Jacksonville, Florida; five step-children; Mark and Greg Saurbek, Kurt Stauff, Karen Albert-Vallad-Stauff, and Karol Stauff; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and his brothers and sisters; Norman, Andre, Helen, Millicent, and Charlotte. Neil was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; Mitchel, Richard and Jules; and three sisters; Faunease, Joy Lou and Fanchon. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 AM Friday April 1, 2016 at Shiloh Community church with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation will be prior to service on Friday at 10 AM with a 12 PM lunch following the service. Inurnment will be in Woodard lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at church or at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding where funeral care has been entrusted.
