Sargeant, 84, of South Ionia, died late Sunday afternoon at Ionia Manor. She was born in Berlin Township July 16, 1896, the daughter of John and Fannie Smith Raymond. She attended Ionia schools and lived here most of her life working for many years in the Belding Silk Mills. She married George Sargeant in Ionia Aug. 5, 1918. He preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1958. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are three sons, Gordon and LaVern, both of Ionia, and Stanley of Milwaukee, Wisc.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Raymond of Belding; and three sisters, Mrs. Katie Petersen of Delton, Mrs. Jessie Sargeant of Ionia and Mrs. Norman (Irene) Wood of Cadillac. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Leddick Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Michigan Heart Association.
