Sargeant, 62, died at the Ionia County Memorial hospital 1:05 a.m. Friday. He had been a patient at the hospital since Monday. Born September 30, 1895 in Sebewa township the son of Mr and Mrs Silas Sargeant, he spent his entire life in Ionia county and the past 35 years at his residence on route four. He operated his own plumbing business for a number of years. Mr Sargeant attended Ionia county schools and was married August 27, 1918 in Ionia. He was a veteran of World War I. Enlisting August 27, 1918 he served as a corporal in Battery B, 42nd Field Artillery and received his discharge January 15, 1919. He was a member of the Girard-Horrocks post No. 37 of the American Legion. For several years he had been a member of Loomis school board in which he was serving at the time of his death. Surviving are his wife, Minnie, three sons, Gordon of Ionia, LaVern serving with U. S. Army in Germany, and Stanley at home; two brothers, Ira of Elmdale, Paul of Lake Odessa; four sisters, Miss Francis Miller of Grand Rapids, Mrs Harry Nicholson of Belding, Mrs. Albert Harwood of Grand Rapids and Miss Irene Sargeant of Portland. Two brothers, Jesse and John, preceded him in death and one son, Keith died at the age of four. Funeral services will be at Phelps funeral chapel Monday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Balcom cemetery." Per Ionia Daily Sentinel Standard, Tuesday, September 30, 1958: "GEORGE E. SARGEANT; Funeral service was held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Phelps funeral chapel for George E. Sargeant, 62, who died Friday at the Ionia County Memorial hospital. Bearers were Henry MacDonough, Peter O'Connor, Carl Seabrook and Fred C. Barnes, members of the Girard-Horrocks post, American Legion. Attending from out of town were Miss Irene Sargeant, Mr and Mrs Elsworth Hall, Mr and Mrs John Hall, Del Northrup of Portland; M & M Ira Sargeant of Elmdale; Mrs. Harry Nichoson, M & M Albert Peterson, M & M Frank Raymond, M & M Norman Wood, M & M Raymond Peterson, M & M Ralph Raymond, M & M Robert Waldron, James Raymond, Mrs. Dwight Brooks, Anne Raymond of Belding; M & M Paul Sargeant and family, Mrs. John Sargeant and George, M & M Carroll Brodbeck, M & M Paul Speas and family of Lake Odessa; M & M Alton Raymond of Greenville; Mrs Jesse Sargeant of Pueblo, Colo; M & M James Pritchard of Haslett; M & M RussellPeabody of Delton; M & M Richard Raymond, Mrs. Donald Mathews, M & M Harris Inghram of Lansing; M & M James Black, Mrs William Lutherow of Fenwick; Mrs. Alvin Helmes and famil of Palo (Mrs. Helmes just died---I went to school with her daughter, Ethelyn); Earl Smith and daughter of Mecosta; James Smith and dau of Midland; M & M Irwin Nelson and Raymond Hall of Orleans; Mrs Marian Croel of Williamston".
