Sargeant, soldier, is buried at Green's Cemetery, IOCO. It gave dates 1897-1950. Green's cemetery is at n.e. and n.w. corners of M-44 (Belding Road) and Johnson Road. Per Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Monday, Nov. 6, 1950: "DEATHS" Jesse Wm. Sargeant, 53, of Belding, died Saturday evening at Blodgett Memorial hospital in Greenville. He had been ill for ten days. He was born in Sebewa Nov. 1, 1897. He was a member of the Hugo Fales post; American Legion, after having served with the 303rd headquarters wagontrain company in World War I, 15 months of that time in France. He was admitted to Greenville hospital on his 53rd birthday. Surviving are his wife, the former Jessie V. Raymond, whom he married in 1920; a daughter, Mrs. William Earnheart of Pueblo, Colo., the former Virginia Sargeant, who taught school in Ionia at one time; his mother, Mary E. Davey, of Grand Rapids; four sisters, Irene Sargeant of Portland; Mrs. Francis Miller and Mrs. Albert Harwood of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Harry Nichoson of Cooks Corners; and four brothers, John and Richard of Lake Odessa, Ira of Alto, and George of Ionia. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Fitzjohn funeral home. The Rev. Lester Clough will officiate. The Belding Legion post will have the graveside services."
