Sargeant, age 77, of Ionia, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2005. He was born on March 10, 1928 in Ionia, the son of George and Minnie (Raymond) Sargeant. Mr. Sargeant attended Loomis School, and graduated from Ionia High School. Lavern was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and a life member of the Sheridan VFW Post #5065. He enjoyed golf, watching football and baseball, and also enjoyed family activities at the Moose Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Stanley and Keith. Surviving are his brother, Gordon Sargeant of Ionia; nieces, Gloria (Dave) Cook of Ionia and Georgia (Jim) Kennedy of Byron; nephew, Bruce Smith of Ames, Iowa; aunt, Irene Wood of Belding; good friend, Ellis Conley of Ionia; many cousins. The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Armand Aronson, Pastor of the First Christian Church of Ionia at noon Wed., Jan. 4 at the Schrauben- Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia. Interment will take place in the spring at Balcom Cemetery, Ionia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of the service on Wednesday.
