Sargent, in Saranac, Sunday, Feb. 5, 1905, aged 58 years, seven months and 20 days. When a young girl she came to America with her father, her mother having died some years before. Nov. 4, 1868, she was married to William W. Sargent of this village, who at the time was a widower with several children, and since that time she has continued a resident of Saranac and vicinity, and as a consequence established quite an extensive acquaintance, and was as generally beloved and respected as acquainted. ‘Tis probably no exaggeration to say that no woman in this community ever enjoyed the esteem and respect of everyone in a greater degree than did Nancy Sargent. She combined the qualities of a refined and noble womanhood. ‘Tis doubtful that her voice was ever heard in reprimand or ridicule. One of the best evidences of her worth and character is the affection shown her by her foster children, whose love could not be greater if she had been their natural mother. When a girl of fourteen she united with the M.E. church, and has ever proven her faith by a life of consistency and charity. For several months Mrs. Sargent has been failing in health, and most of the time suffering acute pain, yet her cheerfulness and fortitude were remarkable. She is survived by three sons – Millard F. of Saranac; Freeman T. of Duluth, and Alwyn, an invalid at the Traverse City Infirmary. Peter Oberson of Saranac, and John Oberson of Odessa, are brothers. There are many other relatives and friends who will cherish the memory of Nancy Sargent. The funeral was held from the M.E. church, Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 7, the Rev. A. B. Johnson officiating.
