Savercool, aged 88, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milman Clifford, in Orleans, Monday. Deceased formerly resided in Missaukee county, but has lived at the Clifford home four years, since the death of his wife. He was twice married, and leaves five children; Newman Savercool of Orleans; Mrs. Charlotte Jones, Ionia; Mrs. Clifford, Orleans; Mrs. George Hall, Greenville; and Jay Savercool, Orleans. Funeral at Banner Grange hall, Orleans, at 11 a.m. Wednesday; interment just across the county line in “Shanty Plains” cemetery. Subsequent Publication: The Ionia Standard, Friday, May 21, 1909 The funeral of Henry Savercool, held at the Banner Grange hall, Orleans, Wednesday, May 12, was largely attended, Rev. E. E. Branch officiating and the singing was by Mrs. Eugene Smith and Mrs. H.E. Spencer of this city. Those in attendance from distant points were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hall, Greenville; Mrs. Minnie McCombs, and Frank Cutler, Barryton; Fred Cutler and family, Muir; Mrs. and Mrs. A. Hall, Mr. and Mrs. N. Kidder, Sheridan; and Mrs. Holiday, Smyrna. Deceased was born in Warren Co., New Jersey, Oct. 9, 1822. He was left an orphan at age of 7 years, and was “bound out” to a Mr. Widrick, where he lived until 22 years old, when he came to Michigan, where he has lived since. At age of 24 he was married to Ruth Herrington, and to them eleven children were born, four of whom are living. After her death he was married to Mrs. Addie Hancock, to whom one son was born. Since her death he has lived in Orleans with his daughter, Mrs. M. Clifford. He leaves 31 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren living. In his younger days he was like a sturdy oak, so rugged was he; but of late he has been failing and has been unable to do any work at all the last three years. He was one of the most patient, uncomplaining of men; kind-hearted and always ready to lend a helping hand. He was of a quiet disposition, and late years especially his feeble health has kept him from public notice; but he will be missed in his own home, where his kind words and gentle ways endeared him to the household.
