Saxton died at his home in the eastern part of the village at 6:00 o’clock this (Thursday) morning, following an illness of more than a year from a complication of diseases. The funeral arrangements had not been made when the Observer forms were sent to the press. Mr. Saxton was born in Wyoming county, N.Y., July 23, 1835, and settled in Roxand township, Eaton county, in 1858. In 1902 he came to Portland. His first wife was Miss Ann Pelton, who passed before him in 1885. Two children, Wellington Saxton, of Portland, and Mrs. Vern Swiler, of Altona, Mich., survive this marriage. In 1889 Mr. Saxton married Miss Jennie Nash, of Clarksville, who, with one son, Ferris, of Washington, D.C., survive. Mr. Saxton was a veteran of Co. D, 9th Michigan Infantry, and as estimable citizen whose death is keenly regretted. Subsequent Publication: Thursday, March 19, 1914 The remains of Daniel F. Saxton, whose death was chronicled in these columns last week, were taken to the Danby cemetery for interment, Saturday afternoon, following funeral services at the late residence, conducted by Rev. W. W. Slee. Members of the G.A.R. and W.R.C. attended last rites in a body, and there were many friends who called on this occasion to pay a last token of respect. Those from a distance who attended were Mrs. and Mrs. George Swiler and son, Earl, of Morley; Mrs. Lester Bushnell, Lake Odessa; Mrs. Martha Combs, Lowell; Ferris Saxton, Washington, D.C. Capt. B. H. Stevens, Alfred Bunnell and Daniel Boyden, comrades of Mr. Saxton in Co. D, Ninth Michigan Infantry, attended the funeral with members of the John Megarah Post. R.C. and to all who by word or deed have sought to lighten the burden of our grief.
