May 1, 1856, he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Geunebaugh and to this union were born 11 children, 10 of whom are living. 37 years ago they moved to Roxand, Eaton Co., Mich., where they have lived continuously, and toiled together, enduring the hardships of pioneer life, and, sharing the joys and happiness that comes from a life of honest toil, and good old age. Besides the 10 surviving children, he leaves to mourn the loss of him, a widow, one brother and one sister (both of Jackson Co.), 14 grand-children and a host of friends, who will remember him best for industry, uprightness and the honest life he has lived. He was a kind husband and father, and always much interested in the welfare of the children, who showed their appreciation by the care and affection showed him in this, his last sickness. Among the last words spoken were to the son caring for him, “Now let me go; I am ready.” He departed this live March 14th being 73 years, 10 months, and 10 days of age. The funeral of the above deceased was held on Monday, March 15th, in the M. E. church at Sebewa, Rev. D. E. Burtch officiating. Besides the large concourse of relatives and friends there were also present one brother and two nieces from Jackson, also relatives from Ann Arbor, Grand Ledge and Collins. Interment was made in Sebewa cemetery. In Memory: God, in His mercy giveth, In His mercy taketh away; One vessel has crossed life’s ocean And anchored safe in the bay. A chair by our hearth is empty And a voice we loved is still, And we think of our Dear Father And the place we can never fill. Oh! How much we all will miss him None but God alone can know; While we tread life’s dark pathway, Through this world of grief and woe. We can only weep and look upward To the heavens bright and blue, And to think of our Dear Father Who is there beyond our view. CARD OF THANKS: We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors for their kindness and sympathy during the sickness and after the death of our husband and father.
