She was born on January 27, 1928 the daughter of Mearl and Clementine (Smith) Rairigh. Ione enjoyed square dancing for 30 years, reading, helping with the friends of the library group in Portland and being a Cub Scout den-mother. She also loved sewing and was known as a wonderful seamstress. She was the manager of the Shoreline Lake Condominium Association for 3 years and also spent time as the treasurer for the city of Sunfield. Ione is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Dorothy Henney and brother, Clayton Rairigh. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, John; children, Steve (Brenda) Sayer and Diane (Larry) Carr; grandchildren, Barbara Malsch, Scott Sayer, Cindy Bloomer and Shawn McIntyre; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great- great-grandchild; brothers, Melvin Rairigh and Vivian Rairigh and sister, Ilene Pierce. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland; with Pastor Paul Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Danby Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2007. Contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in Ione's name.
