                 County Man Dies Sunday On M-66

An Ionia County young man was the first highway fatality for Montcalm this year.

The fatal crash took place on M-66 one-half mile north of the Fenwick corner at 
2:20 a.m., Sunday.

Killed was Russell E.Sayer, 21 of route one, Fenwick. He lived with his parents 
near Woodard Lake.

Also injured were his brother, Robert Sayers, 22, also of route two, Fenwick and 
Charles Stiels, 22, of 637 Bagley street, Ionia, who was driver of the car.

Robert Sayers and Stiles were brought to the Ionia County Memorial Hospital 
after the accident and Stiles was immediately transferred to Blodgett hospital 
in Grand Rapids. Sayers was released Sunday.

The fatal crash was investigated by Waldo Fisher, Montcalm county deputy sheriff 
of Sheridan. He stated the three young men were going south on M-66 when they 
struck an icy spot on the pavement and skidded into a tree.

The Sayers boys formerly lived in Ionia with their parents.

Sayers was born in Ionia July 19, 1934 the son of Mr.and Mrs.Clifton Sayers.

He attended Ionia Schools and was employed at Gibson Refrigerator Company at the 
time of his death.

Surviving are is parents; one sister, Mrs.Marilyn Strickling of route 2, Fenwick 
and two brothers, Robert and Floyd at home.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Myers Funeral 
Home with the Rev.George L. Rentschler officiating.

Interment will be at Woodard Lake Cemetery.
