Sayles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chapin Sayles, who were among the earliest pioneers of this vicinity, died last Saturday at his home in Langston, Montcalm county, at the age of 93 years. Funeral services were held there Tuesday afternoon at Yeiter’s chapel, conducted by a Belding minister. Interment in Oakwood cemetery. A detail from Lowell American Legion Post conducted military services at the grave. Dr. Sayles was born in Ontario, Can., in 1839, and came here with his parents when about 7 years old. He was one of a family of 15 children and lived here until the breaking out of the Civil War, when he enlisted for three years, at the end of which time he re-enlisted and served to the close of the war. For the past 54 years he has practiced medicine in Montcalm county. Surviving are the widow, a son, Roy Sayles, a daughter, Mrs. Wm. Force of near Lakeview, three brothers, Merrit Sayles of Lowell, Clarence M. Sayles of Fremont, Frank Sayles of Hastings, and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Snethen of Granite Falls, Wash., and Mrs. Bertha White of Lowell.
