Ionia County News – Thursday, 23 May 1946

John V. Sayres, 70, was found dead about eleven o’clock Sunday morning at the 
home of Leon Pastor, on the edge of Portland village.  Mr. Sayres had returned 
from the recreation center about 10:30, is thought to have become ill, and sat 
down on the porch where he died of a heart attack.  The Pastors, where he had 
lived for the past 15 years, found him when they returned from church.  He is 
survived by an aunt, Mrs. Charles Sayres, of Muir.  Funeral service was held 
Tuesday from Bandfield Funeral Home.  Burial in Portland.
