Guttlieb Schaefer, 79, of 858 Chapman died Saturday about noon at Ionia Manor 
following a short illness.  

He was born in Fowler, February 16, 1893, the son of John and Catherine Miller 
Schaefer.  He was married to Anna Wietzel September 30, 1919, in Pewamo and 
before moving to Ionia 26 years ago they lived on a farm near St. Johns.  His 
wife preceded him in death February 13, 1972.

He was a self employed farmer, member of SS Peter and Paul church, Knights of 
Columbus, and Farm Bureau.

Surviving are a son, Carl Schaefer of Pewamo; three daughters, Mrs. Rosaline 
McMillan of Hubbardston, Mrs. Kathleen Eisler of St. Johns and Mrs. Monica 
Howard of Grand Rapids; brother, Herman Schaefer of Maple Rapids; two sisters, 
Mrs. Rose Adams of Ionia, and Mrs. Louis Fitzpatrick of Cedar Springs; 15 
grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.

Rosary will be recited Monday at 8 p.m. at Myers-Roetman funeral home.  
Requiem high mass will be at SS Peter and Paul church Tuesday at 11 a.m.  
Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Subsequent Publication:  Wednesday, May 17, 1972

Msgr. Edward Jaworowicz gave requiem high Mass at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul 
church Tuesday for Guttlieb Schaefer who died Saturday.  Interment was at Mt. 
Olivet cemetery.  

Bearers were Max Pinkney, Clayton Campbell, Louis Warner, Gerald Blundy, 
Douglas Campbell and Leo McMillan.  A lunch was served to family and friends 
at the Knights of Columbus hall following services.
