Our townspeople were pained and sorrowed to learn of the death last Friday 
morning, at her home in this village, of Mrs. Stephen Schafer, heart trouble 
and pneumonia being the contributing factors in hastening, for the deceased had 
been in poor health for some time.

The funeral services were held Monday morning from St. Joseph’s church and was 
attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.  Rev. Fr. 
Kuehuel? sung the solemn requiem mass of the dead.  The interment was made in 
the family lot in the Catholic cemetery, near the old home where she had spent 
so many years of her life.

Mrs. Schafer, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Brault, was born at Am???burg, 
Can., Feb. 2nd, 1817, and passed from this life March 19, 1915.  She was 
married to Stephen Schafer at Westphalia and eventually they located on a farm 
in Dallas township, three miles east of Pewamo, where they continued to reside 
until the death of Mr. Schafer in the spring of 1908.  Afterwards Mrs. Schafer 
purchased a farm in Lebanon township and lived on the same until about two 
years ago when she came to Pewamo to reside.

Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Schafer, seven of whom are left to mourn 
her loss:  Mrs. Peter Miller, Mrs. Geo. Brown, Albert, Frank, Charles, William 
and Arnold.

Mrs. Schafer was one of those kind neighborly women whom everybody seems to 
love.  She was an affectionate mother and an earnest worker in the Catholic 
faith.  She has earned the reward of true motherhood and christian zeal and is 
now in the eternal peace of the faithful on another shore.
