He was born August 24, 1929 in Pewamo to Arnold and Dorothea (Halfmann) Schafer. He married Margaret Daller on May 12, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Miriam. He was a farmer most of his life, retiring in 1994. He graduated from Pewamo High school Class of 1947. He was a WW II Army veteran and a member of the Fowler VFW post #3733. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Hubbardston and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2198 in Hubbardston-Carson City. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Karen (Steven) Riley, of St. Joseph, Carol (Herbert Nelson) Fink of Webberville, Nancy (Randy) Phelps of Ada; seven grandchildren, Jared, Janae, Colin, Eric, Kyle, Kailee, and Derek; two sisters; Eveline (Edmund) Miller, of Pewamo, and Beatrice (William) Karger of St. Johns; four brothers, Stanley Schafer, Gilbert (Joanne) Schafer, Delbert (Agnes) Schafer, all of Pewamo, and David (Barbara) Schafer of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sister-in-law Ermaline Fedewa of Pewamo. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ralph Schafer. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston, with Fr. William Reitz officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral Home in Carson City. Rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Final resting place will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Hubbardston. Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or for masses.
