Ionia Sentinel Standard, 7 Jan 1987

Christopher James Shafer, 5, of 4533 Lyons Road, Lyons, died Jan. 6 at Ionia
County Memorial Hospital.  He was the son of Louis C. and Celeste A. Thompson
Schafer and was born at Mt. Pleasant Jan. 29, 1981.  He attended kindergarten at
Portland Public Schools.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a sister, Jennifer Shafer, and a
brother, Jeffery Schafer, both at home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy
Thompson of Muir; a great-grandmother, Helen Penokie of L’Anse; and several
aunts and uncles.

Funeral mass will be held at SS. Peter and Paul Church Thursday at 10 a.m. 
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  The family will be at the Rich Street
Chapel of Montgomery Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.  Rosary will be
said at 8 p.m.
