Henry Shafer, 82, of Pewamo died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home after
suffering a stroke Tuesday evening.  He has been in general poor health all
summer.  He lived on a farm three miles southeast of Pewamo until six years ago
when he moved into the town of Pewamo.  He was a member of St. Joseph’s church
in Pewamo and of the Holy Name society.

Surviving are the wife, Theresa; seven daughters, Mrs. Mary Gensterblum and Mrs.
Ben Smith of Portland, Mrs. Frank Stump and Mrs. Charles Cook of Pewamo, Miss
Ann Shafer of Lansing, Mrs. Joseph Hauck of Ionia and Sister Myrona of Souix
City, Iowa; and five sons, William of Pewamo, Edward of Clare, Otto and Louis of
Westphalia and George of Pewamo.  Of the twelve children, nine were at the
bedside of their father at the time of his death.

The body is at the home in Pewamo.  Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
