Schafer, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004 at the age of 70. He was born March 9, 1934 in Lebanon Township, the son of Arnold and Dorothea (Halfman) Schafer. Delbert was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a retired farmer and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, hunting and had a unique ability to make people laugh. Delbert married Agnes Schafer on October 18, 1958. In addition to his parents, Delbert was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald and Ralph Rchafer. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Agnes Schafer of Pewamo; five children Gary )Maureen) Schafer of Westphalia, Dean Schafer of Fowler, Scott (Karen) Schafer of Pewamo, Kevin (Tina) Schafer of Fowler and Kari (Mike) Schneider of St. Johns; 17 grandchildren, Nicole, Holly, Katie, Cody, Amanda, Aubrey, Brianne, Travis, Tara, Zachary, Zoie, Adam, Jason, Kayla, Ben, Michael and Jordan. He is also survived by five siblings, Eveline (Ed) Miller, Stanley Schafer and Gilbert (Joan) Schafer, all of Pewamo, Bea (Bill) Karber of St. Johns and David (Barbara) Schafer of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two sisters-in-law, Ermaline Fedewa of Pewamo and Margaret Schafer of Muir. Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. Military Honors were provided by F.F.W. Post # 3733. Arrangements were entrusted to the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund or Great Lakes Hospice.
