JANICE KAY SCHAFER

Died February 24, 2026-age 79 of Pewamo at Stoneleigh Hospice Care, Lansing,MI.
Born November 27, 1946 in Lansing, was the adopted daughter of Stewart & Dorthy 
(Reed) LaDue of Ionia,Michigan.
Janice attended Ionia High School, graduating in 1964.
Married Michael O.Schafer on October 7, 1967.
She was a devoted wife, mother, friend, & member ofSt.Joseph Parish Pewamo, 
St.Joseph's Alter Society, & Beta Sigma Phi international Society.
Janice worked as a dental assistant, state officer for international Order of 
Jobs Daughters & social worker.
Janice enjoyed nurturing children with love & kindness, on countless lives.
Survived by her children; Sara Schafer, Steven (Michelle) Schafer, William 
(Brenda) Schafer, & Amy (Jack) Potratz, fur baby Jasmine; 12 grandchildren & 9 
great-grandchildren, her siblings; Maryjo (Dean), Debbie, Lori, Carolyn, Robin & 
David,In-Laws; Doreen, Paul(Ruth), Charles (Susie) & many nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband Michael (54 years), parents Stewart & Dorthy 
LaDue Helmi & Alvin; & siblings Ruth(James),Kaye (Douglas),Kristine(Robert), 
Linda, & Harlayn; In-Laws, Mark, Cornelia (Jim), Julie, Julianne (Jospeh), Alice 
(Roy), Alvin & special nieces nephews & cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial  will be held at St.Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, 
MI on March 6, 2026, at 10:30 p.m., with Rev Fr. Darrel Kempf presiding & Rev 
Fr. Charlon Mason co-celebrating.
Rite of Committal will follow at Mt.Calvary (St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery), 
Pewamo, MI.
Visitation will take place at St.Mary's Chapel, Westphalia from 2:00-04:00 & 
6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund of 
Stoneleigh Hospice Care in Janice's memory.
