Robert C. Schafer, aged 84, of Ionia, passed away Dec. 18, 2007.  He was born 
Jan. 10, 1923, the son of Leonard and Agnes (Humphreys) Schafer. He married 
Josephine Weitzel Dec. 1, 1944 who preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1965. He 
later married Arleen Trierweiler Nov. 24, 1965. Robert was a WW II Navy vet. 
He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, wood crafting, stain glass work and making 
jewelry. He was member of Knights of Columbus and SS Peter & Paul Church.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Arleen Schafer of Ionia; 
children, Bob (Kelle) Schafer of Belding, Thomas (Cindy) Trierweiler of 
Lowell, Kathleen Trierweiler of Ionia, Judy (Ed) Clark of Ionia, Glen 
(Deborah) Trierweiler of Ionia and Diane (Martin) Nosko of Ada; brothers 
Richard (Trude) Schafer of Ionia and Raymond (Mary) Schafer of Ionia; sister, 
Virginia McKenna of Lansing; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathan and sisters Ruth 
Bauermeister, Luella Boyd, Catherine Poole and Mary Edwards.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic 
Church in Ionia with Father Melvin Fox officiating. In lieu of flowers you may 
make contributions to SS Peter & Paul Church or Hospice of Michigan. Funeral 
arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia.
