Sentinel-Std. - Thursday, April 7, 1949

Ernest Edward Schaffer, 74, of Saginaw, formerly of Ionia, died Wednesday night 
in St. Luke hospital in Saginaw.

He was born in Detroit: July 12, 1874, and was employed for 39 years by the Pere 
Marquette railroad in Saginaw and Ionia. He moved from Ionia to Saginaw in 1932.

On July 173, 1901, he married Emilie Speckin.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church of Saginaw, and of the L.F.A. of 
the church in Saginaw.

Surviving are the wife, a son, Ewald of Birmingham; a daughter, Mrs. Peter 
Schneider, of Saginaw; two grandchildren, George Schneider of Saginaw and 
Virginia Schaffer of Birmingham; a brother, Benjamin Schaffer, of Detroit.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Reitz 
funeral home, 1026 East Genesee avenue, Saginaw. The Rev. August F. Bernthal 
will officiate. Services will also be conducted at the Boynton funeral home in 
Ionia at 2 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Highland Park cemetery.
